Help care for Cholita and Dominga, two special bears rescued from abuse!
Spectacled bears Cholita and Dominga were snatched from the wild, their families, and the world nature intended for them, the trauma of their terrible past taking its toll.
In the circus, Cholita’s front feet were mutilated to remove her claws and her teeth broken so she could not defend herself - the stress of her brutal life causing her to lose all of her fur. For years after she was confiscated by the authorities of Peru, there was nowhere for her to go, Cholita spending her days in a remote zoo. Then, in one of Animal Defenders International's (ADI) most emotional rescues ever, ADI took Cholita to her forever forest home.
Like Cholita, Dominga was torn from the wild as a cub, along with her sister. After being confiscated from wildlife traffickers, Dominga and her sister were also placed in a zoo. When her sister died, Dominga was left alone, she too losing her fur due to the stress. With the support of the Peruvian authorities and the zoo, ADI took Dominga on a journey hundreds of miles over the Andes Mountains to live alongside Cholita.
The spectacled bear is the only bear native to South America and also one of the world's most endangered. All international trade of spectacled bears is strictly prohibited. Illegal trafficking and hunting however pose a severe threat to the species.
ADI has built a safe haven for rescued spectacled bears in the heart of their homeland, GreaterGood.org partnering with ADI to support the care for Dominga and Cholita.
Both bears live in lush enclosures with their very own caves to snuggle up in at night. With a special meet-and-greet corridor linking Dominga and Cholita's habitats, they can have safe contact if and when they wish.
WE NEED YOUR HELP to provide these special bears with the food and ongoing care they need, in a safe and secure environment that is as close to nature as possible.
Just $5.00 helps care for these two rescued and endangered bears.
