Help provide compassionate care for shelter dogs in Yucatán, Mexico while they wait for their forever homes.
Pet overpopulation leads to the suffering of dogs in the streets of Mérida, the largest city in the Yucatán Peninsula. Adoption rates have improved, but there are still many dogs who need help. For almost every dog who gets adopted, several more are found abandoned on the streets.
Greater Good Charities has partnered with Evolución Animal AC to place dogs in loving homes and to educate people about the responsibilities of owning a pet. With no government funding, they need your help to cover the food and medical needs for the dogs in their care.
Evolución helps dogs like Sasha (pictured at right) who was abandoned with two other dogs in the north of Mérida. Each was malnourished and covered in ticks and fleas. The volunteers at Evolución made sure Sasha and her friends were given the veterinary attention and nutrition they needed—plus lots of love. Sasha and her friends are now healthy and awaiting their forever homes.
Evolución organizes spay and neuter clinics where animals are sterilized at no cost to their owners. This helps end the cycle of overpopulation, abandonment, and neglect. Evolución also holds educational programs for school children visiting the shelter, teaching a new generation of responsible pet owners.
You can help. Just $10 feeds 1 rescue dog. Your donation allows Evolución Animal AC to provide food and medicine to dogs in their care, support their community volunteers, and help dogs find their forever homes.
Evolucion Animal A.C. mission is to provide compassionate and preventative care for 250+ dogs and 100+ cats in the San Lorenzo Sanctuary, working to place these animals in loving homes; promoting sterilization as the only solution to dog and cat overpopulation to end the suffering on the streets of Merida and surrounding areas; to reach more families about the humane treatment of all living things and the responsibilities of owing a pet, and the ongoing education of our community about their responsibilities towards the welfare of companion, street and working animals.
