The Home for the Holidays Flight to Freedom lifts off on December 18! The Animal Rescue Site, in partnership with Greater Good Charities' Good Flights program, is flying over 40 dogs and 15 cats out of overcrowded shelters in Alabama and Louisiana to new homes in Wisconsin. We're grateful for all your generous support, which will help get these lucky pets one step closer to finding their forever homes!
This is a very special flight! This will be Good Flights' 200th pet transport AND will be flying the 12,000th pet, since the program's inception! To celebrate this HUGE milestone, Petfinder.com is matching up to $100,000!
The animals on this flight are at-risk pets; without the flight, they might never find their loving homes due to the overcrowding that often happens in shelters. Sending these pets from under-resourced shelters to shelters with empty space in New Jersey will give them the second chance at life AND the adoption they deserve.
Meet some of the pet passengers from our last flight:
Meet Squishy!
This adorable beagle mix came into the shelter as a stray, so we will never know how he ended up wandering the rural streets in south Louisiana. Thankfully, he was brought into the shelter, where he could be safe, warm, and fed! Now he gets the best opportunity to fly to New Jersey and finally find a home of his own on this month's Flight to Freedom.
Meet Lucien!
Lucien has been in the shelter for almost 4 months! He was supposed to go on a transport in August and September but unfortunately for him he got sick and was exposed to ringworm. This sweet boy has been waiting patiently for his transport, and he as well as the shelter staff are so excited that he is finally getting to catch his flight out, and find his forever home!
Meet Hera!
Hera is an 8-month-old shepherd mix who was found as a stray running on the streets in Louisiana. Hera had a microchip, but when reached the owner’s girlfriend said the owner was in jail and nobody wanted to continue to care for sweet Hera. Hera has been in the shelter since September 19th, and all the staff have loved getting to know this sweet girl. We are so excited she gets to catch the next flight and move on to bigger and better things, and hopefully a family that will love her as much as we do!
Meet Breadstick!
Breadstick was found roaming a neighborhood near a busy shopping center and highway. After asking around, it was clear he didn’t belong to anyone, and the neighbors did not want him around. It took some time to gain his trust enough to catch him so he could be properly cared for...and it was a breadstick that finally got him close enough to pick up. After years of roaming the streets, scrapping with other tomcats, wooing the ladies, and eating out of trash cans, he now knows the kindness of humans. Help him fly to freedom!
Meet Lionel!
Lionel was first spotted at a primary school and was super excited to see all of the staff and students. He kept returning each day when the students were out at recess. The staff finally decided Lionel was most likely dumped and called animal control to pick him up. Despite being abandoned, he is super friendly and outgoing and just wants all of the attention.
Meet Lil' Drizz!
Lil’ Drizz has a story similar to Lucien. He was dropped off to us as a stray - he'd been shopping at the local Walmart. Lil’ Drizz had an adopter who decided he no longer wanted Lil’ Drizz due to Drizz being exposed to ringworm in August. So now him and Lucien are back together as best buds in a cat condo and are so excited to be leaving on the same flight!
Every month we fly a group of deserving pets. Help us fund December's Flight to Freedom now! Just $5, helps cover the fuel costs of flying a pet 125 miles towards safety.
In shelters across the country, highly adoptable dogs and cats are euthanized just because the shelters are overcrowded. In other areas, shelters have a shortage of adoptable pets. We're transporting these pets to shelters where they're immediately adopted.
This month's Good Flight will transport at-risk dogs and cats to safety!
